When chanted, Om vibrates at 432 Hz, a vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature. When played, the water in this Om bowl dances to the bowl’s vibrations.
It is thought that Om, pronounced Aum, is the foundation sound of the universe. By chanting it correctly we are deepening our connection to everything around us. In addition the vibrational effect of Om on our physical body has a calming effect on our nervous system and helps quiet the mind.
Om, or Aum, has been translated from its ancient roots in the Vedas into many languages: Hum of the Tibetans, Amen of the Egyptians, Romans, Jews, Greeks and Christians and Amin of the Moslems.
Aum actually consists of four syllables: A, U, M, and the silent syllable.
- The A (awe) sound begins at the back of your throat and vibrations may be felt in your solar plexus and chest.
- The U (oo) rolls forward along your upper palate and felt in your throat.
- The M (mmmm) with your front teeth gently touching may be felt at the roof of your mouth.
- The fourth syllable is the silence of the Infinite. A period where wisdom is cultivated.
Next time you need to relax or have trouble sleeping, try sounding Om.
