In the early 1980’s Fabien Maman, a French musician, acupuncturist and bio-energetician, devoted one and a half years studying the effects of sound on human cells. Sound Bath

Experimenting with various acoustic sounds including the human voice, gong, acoustical guitar and xylophone, he found the vibrations actually transformed the cell structure. The human voice produced the most dramatic results – exploding cancer cells and energizing healthy ones; however, the rich overtones of the gong being played for 21 minutes also caused the cancer cells to disintegrate and ultimately explode.

Following is a fascinating interview with the late Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, a leading oncologist who pioneered new strategies for the treatment and prevention of cancer. Dr. Gaynor, author of the book “The Healing Power of Sound”, actively used sound in his integrative oncology practice. This interview was kindly reprinted with permission from Delamora.life.

When chanted, Om vibrates at 432 Hz, a vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature. When played, the water in this Om bowl dances to the bowl’s vibrations.

It is thought that Om, pronounced Aum, is the foundation sound of the universe. By chanting it correctly we are deepening our connection to everything around us. In addition the vibrational effect of Om on our physical body has a calming effect on our nervous system and helps quiet the mind.

Om, or Aum, has been translated from its ancient roots in the Vedas into many languages: Hum of the Tibetans, Amen of the Egyptians, Romans, Jews, Greeks and Christians and Amin of the Moslems.

Aum actually consists of four syllables: A, U, M, and the silent syllable.

- The A (awe) sound begins at the back of your throat and vibrations may be felt in your solar plexus and chest.

- The U (oo) rolls forward along your upper palate and felt in your throat.

- The M (mmmm) with your front teeth gently touching may be felt at the roof of you...

You walk into a fashion shop or bar with a boom box beating and your unconsciously nodding your head, feeling good about yourself and about to confidently spend a lot of money – why?

Certain sequences of notes named modes (minor and major), have been studied since the middle ages and are well understood by songwriters and industries to influence their audience. Some modes are uplifting, for example the Lydian mode evokes feelings of excitement, urgency, and heightened energy that can easily capture the listener’s attention.

Examples include:

- The Simpsons and Jetson Themes
- Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight Tonight
- Fleatwood Mac – Dreams
- Jane’s Addiction – Jane Say’s
- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Here Comes My Girl

On the other end of the scale the Locrian mode was deemed so disturbing it was suppressed by the church and deemed 'diabolus in musica' - the devil in music. While seldom used, Metallica made use of its unsettling and unresolved tones in their hit single - Wherever I May...

Almost a century before Douglas Adams revealed the answer to Life the Universe and Everything, Nikola Tesla was busy making sense of the question by focusing on the three non-physical aspects of the universe (Energy, Frequency and Vibrations) when he said: 'If we want to know the secrets of the universe, we should focus on the non-physical aspects than physical aspects, that will speed up the inventions.'

Only now, after smashing electrons together in gigantic particle accelerators to try and prove the world is physical (by finding the elusive ‘point particle’ upon which all life is built) have quantum physicists concluded their age old assumption, that ‘the physical universe is physical’, was wrong. Indeed, their recent conclusion is that the physical world is actually energy.

Confused? So was Albert Einstein who went to his grave yearning to learn what an electron is. Today we now know an electron has no internal structure and is energy in its simplest form. But the simple ends there,...

Nursing a broken bone? Suffering high stress levels or at risk of heart disease? It may be a good time to make friends with a cat. According to The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Cats purr at frequencies between 25 and 150 Hz and domestic cats produce strong frequencies at exactly 25 Hz and 50 Hz, frequencies that promote bone growth and fracture healing. In addition, the domestic cat purrs a harmonic at 100 Hz, a frequency used therapeutically for pain, oedema, wounds and dyspnoea. If domestic cats are not your preferred feline, you may also receive the same benefits from a puma, ocelot or serval which may also double as a purrfect claw-enforcer for your home.

Purr vibrations may help with:

  • Stress reduction  — petting a purring cat can relax you

  • Decrease the symptoms of dyspnoea

  • Lower blood pressure – by simply interacting with a cat and enjoying the purring sound

  • Reducing the risk of heart disease (purrveyors of domestic cats have 40% less risk of ex...

This Christmas one half of Treemendus Health took part in the Rapha Festive500 cycling challenge while both parties indulged in a week of excess turkey, plum pudding and Christmas cake. Needless to say, both our bodies were put under stress as they coped with this week of excesses.

  • The Rapha Festive500 challenges people to cycle 500km’s in the 8 days between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Tough gig – even tougher when Andrew achieved the 500km’s in 4 days around work and social commitments. Check out Strava for upcoming cycling or running challenges but a word of caution, cycling is addictive – Andrew was still adding to his score hours before the countdown to 2019.

  • Christmas trimmings… For many, the annual Christmas get-together is a day of love and laughs while for some it may be a stressful day of food prepping, managing family quibbles or self-imposed judgement for eating and drinking all the wrong foods. However, eating that carb loaded desert prepared lovingly b...

During a naturopathic consult your naturopath listens to your story and gathers a detailed case history including diet and lifestyle factors. The unique assessment of tongue, nails and eyes (Iridology), together with conventional assessment methods such as blood pressure and blood tests, used where applicable, may provide great insight into one’s health.

Illness has a way of creeping up slowly and with today’s fast passed lifestyles it can be challenging to recognise the subtle warning signs our bodies give us. This is where your Naturopath excels, helping you to recognise warning signs while empowering you to achieve your wellness goals and become the best version of yourself.

In assessing each case, naturopathic practitioners look beyond the presenting symptoms to identify the underlying causes, thereby treating the whole person. Treatment focusses on stimulating inherent self-healing mechanisms to restore homeostasis. Depending on the case and the person’s preferences, treatment may i...
